There are certain Do's & Don’ts to follow while purchasing, bursting and storing crackers. Thus, it is very important to
follow the precautions while bursting crackers. A little negligence, ignorance and carelessness can cause a fatal injury.
Do's
Utilize crackers only in the outdoors.
Buy crackers only from authorised and reputed manufacturers.
Light only one cracker at a time, by one person. Others should watch from a safe distance.
Keep the crackers to be used in a safer place.
Always use a long candle or an agarbathi for igniting fire crackers and keep your elbow joint straight to increase the distance between your body and the crackers
Keep two buckets of water handy. In the event of a fire, extinguish the flames by pouring water from the buckets. Every major fire is small when it starts.
In the case of burns, pour a large quantity of water on the burnt area.
In the case of major burns, after extinguishing the fire, remove all smouldering clothes. Wrap the victim in a clean bed sheet.
The patient should be taken to a burns specialist or a major hospital. Don’t panic.
In the case of eye burns, wash the eye with tap water for 10 minutes and take the victim to a hospital.
Don'ts
Don’t ignite crackers while holding them.
Don’t bend over the crackers being ignited.
Don’t ignite crackers in any container.
Don’t approach the misfired crackers immediately.
Don’t tamper with misfired crackers.
Don’t attempt to make crackers at home.
Don’t allow small children to handle crackers.
Don’t throw or point crackers at other people.
Don’t carry crackers in your pocket.
Don’t light firecrackers in narrow by-lanes; preferably use open areas and parks.
Fireworks should not be used between 10.00 pm & 6 am as per Supreme court order.
